ISLAMABAD: Former Finance Minister Asad Umar Arrested Outside Supreme Court Following Imran Khan's Detention.
In a late-night development, former Minister of Finance, Asad Umar, was apprehended by the police outside the Supreme Court, following the recent arrest of Tehreek-e-Insaf leader, Imran Khan. Asad Umar had arrived at the Islamabad High Court with a petition challenging Imran Khan's detention.
Sources reveal that the Anti-Terrorism Squad took Asad Umar into custody, transporting him to an undisclosed location. The arrest comes in the wake of a case filed against Asad Umar and Ali Nawaz Awan for violating Section 144 by organizing a rally in Islamabad, with Asad Umar leading the event.
Police sources indicate that Asad Umar was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Act 16, aimed at maintaining control over public gatherings. Currently, Asad Umar is under the custody of Islamabad police, being held at the Police Line Headquarters.
Meanwhile, Fawad Chaudhry, a prominent member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, was arrested as he exited the Supreme Court building. Fawad Chaudhry had spent 12 hours inside the Supreme Court, refraining from leaving due to apprehensions of arrest.
However, he was taken into custody immediately upon his departure from the building.
