From Miami to Hunza - A Miami Girl's Revelation of Comfort Beyond 'Toxic' America

PESHAWAR: Miami native Samantha Shea has expressed her love for her adopted home of Hunza in a heartfelt essay, emphasizing the significant improvement in her quality of life compared to living in a US city.

In her piece for Business Insider, Shea highlights the financial savings she has experienced, stating that she saves thousands each month living in Hunza.

She also praises the overall culture in Hunza, describing the people as polite and respectful, in contrast to what she perceives as a toxic hustling culture in America.

One of the key aspects Shea appreciates about Hunza is the clean air she breathes and the opportunity to enjoy organic, home-cooked meals for every meal.

She acknowledges that many people back home have misconceptions about Pakistan, often associating it solely with deserts. Shea admits that she herself didn't know much about the country before traveling there after college.

When Shea first arrived in Pakistan in 2019, it was her first experience living outside of the US. She notes the limited hours of electricity in Hunza, the need to walk to the local market for daily necessities since Amazon doesn't deliver to the mountainous valley region, and the lack of guaranteed running hot water.

However, despite these challenges, Shea considers Hunza her home. She appreciates the sense of security she feels, not needing to lock up her bike or front door, being able to walk everywhere, and having recently completed a major home renovation at a cost of only $3,000.

Comparing her travel experiences in Pakistan and India, Shea found it easier and more enjoyable to travel in Pakistan. She encountered fewer scammers and observed less trash on the streets, as well as better road conditions.

As a travel blogger, Shea has immersed herself in the local culture, learning Urdu and currently studying Burushaski, one of the primary languages spoken in Hunza.

Samantha Shea's essay paints a vivid picture of her positive experiences and newfound appreciation for the beauty, simplicity, and improved quality of life she has found in her adopted home of Hunza.
