Imran Khan among Over 600 PTI leaders added to 'no-fly list' for role in May 9 violence

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) on Thursday added over 600 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and former assembly members to the no-fly list for their alleged involvement in the May 9 violence and desecration of martyrs' monuments.

Sources within the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) revealed that the PTI leaders, along with their party chief Imran Khan, have been included in the FIA's Provisional National Identification List (PNIL) with the objective of barring their international travel.

The list also includes the names of Bushra Bibi, the wife of the former prime minister, along with Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, Murad Saeed, Qasim Suri, Asad Qaiser, Yasmin Rashid, Maleeka Bokhari and Mian Aslam Iqbal.

As per the sources, it has been asserted that a number of PTI leaders and officials made attempts to depart the country within the past three days (72 hours), however, they were stopped at the airports.

To prevent their departure from the country, the police, counter-terrorism department (CTD), and intelligence agencies forwarded their names for scrutiny and monitoring.

Since May 9, a sweeping operation against the PTI has resulted in the arrest of numerous party members and leaders, following allegations of their involvement in the riots that tragically caused a minimum of 8 fatalities and left numerous others injured.

Following the acts of vandalism on May 9, a number of prominent figures within the former ruling party, including Asad Umar, Fawad Chaudhry, Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, Shireen Mazari, Mahmood Moulvi, Malik Amin Aslam and  Aftab Siddiqui, have taken a public stand against the attacks on state installations. In a significant move, they have announced their departure from the party.

The PTI has condemned the move to add its leaders to the no-fly list, calling it a "witch hunt" by the government. The party has vowed to challenge the decision in court.

The government has defended the move, saying that it is necessary to prevent the PTI leaders from fleeing the country to avoid prosecution.

The addition of the PTI leaders to the no-fly list is a major blow to the party, which is already reeling from the loss of power in the recent elections. The move is likely to further polarize the country and could lead to more violence.

The government's decision to add the PTI leaders to the no-fly list has been met with mixed reactions. Some people have welcomed the move, saying that it is necessary to hold the PTI leaders accountable for their role in the May 9 violence. Others have criticized the move, saying that it is a politically motivated witch hunt.

The PTI has vowed to challenge the decision in court. It remains to be seen whether the courts will uphold the government's decision.
