Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake Hits Northern California

CALIFORNIA: On Thursday, a magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck the northern regions of California, causing tremors to be felt in the area. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake on the Richter scale, indicating its magnitude. Fortunately, there have been no reports of any loss of life or significant property damage resulting from the earthquake.

The earthquake occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. local time on Thursday, as per Pakistani time conversion. Initially, the USGS recorded the magnitude as 5.7 but later revised it to 5.5.

The earthquake had a shallow depth of less than one mile and was located approximately 2.5 miles southwest of the Salton Sea in the eastern coastal region of California.

Tremors from the earthquake were felt in the northern half of the state, with the epicenter situated about 120 miles northeast of Sacramento.

The affected area was around the Salton Sea, which is located near the eastern coast of California. Fortunately, there have been no reports of significant damage to infrastructure or loss of life resulting from this earthquake.

It is worth noting that on December 20th of the previous year, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 struck the coast of Northern California.

Unlike the recent earthquake, the previous one caused notable damage to a bridge and several roads in the affected city. Additionally, there were incidents of gas leaks, power outages, and a building fire triggered by the earthquake.

The recent magnitude 5.5 earthquake in northern California resulted in tremors being felt across the region. However, no significant damage or casualties have been reported thus far.

Authorities and experts will continue to monitor the situation and provide necessary updates regarding seismic activities in the area. It is important for residents to remain vigilant and follow safety guidelines during and after such natural events.
