ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Managing Director Aftab ur Rehman Rana announced that 10 villages across the country have been selected as model rural tourism destinations. These villages have been recognized and included on the map of the United Nations World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) esteemed list of best tourist villages.
In a statement, Rana highlighted that the UNWTO has launched the Global Best Tourism Village initiative, aimed at promoting the value and preservation of rural villages, along with the landscapes associated with them. This initiative recognizes the significant role tourism plays in enhancing the cultural heritage and safeguarding the traditions of rural communities.
The PTDC's selection of these 10 villages as model rural tourism destinations reflects their commitment to fostering sustainable tourism practices that benefit both visitors and local communities. By promoting rural tourism, the PTDC aims to revive and preserve the unique traditions, craftsmanship, traditional festivals, architecture, and other remarkable practices of these villages.
The inclusion of these villages on the UNWTO's map of best tourist villages is a testament to Pakistan's diverse cultural heritage and scenic landscapes. It positions these villages as exceptional destinations that offer an authentic and enriching experience for tourists seeking a deeper connection with the country's rural communities.
The PTDC's initiative not only showcases the natural beauty of these villages but also highlights the immense potential for tourism-driven economic growth in rural areas. By attracting visitors, these villages can generate income and employment opportunities for the local population, leading to socio-economic development and the preservation of cultural heritage.
As the PTDC continues its efforts to promote rural tourism in Pakistan, it is expected that more villages will be identified and developed as model destinations in the future. Through sustainable tourism practices, the PTDC aims to create a harmonious balance between cultural preservation, environmental conservation, and socio-economic progress, ensuring a prosperous future for both the tourism industry and the rural communities of Pakistan.
