ODISHA:
In a devastating incident that unfolded on Friday, a major train collision in the eastern state of Odisha, India, resulted in the loss of more than 250 lives and left over 900 individuals injured. Local reports indicate that this catastrophe ranks among the deadliest rail accidents the country has witnessed in the past two decades.

The incident entailed the convergence of three trains, namely, the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express, and a cargo train. According to reports, more than 233 people lost their lives, while the number of injured individuals surpassed 900.

As news of the accident spread, opposition party leaders expressed their condolences to the families of the victims. They also raised concerns regarding the signaling system employed by the railways, which allegedly contributed to the crash.

Saket Gokhale, a spokesperson for the Trinamool Congress (TMC), took to Twitter to express his shock and distress over the incident. Expressing his deep shock and distress, he took to Twitter and wrote, "I am utterly stunned and deeply distressed upon learning about the tragic incident involving the Coromandel Express and Yashwantpur-Howrah train collision in Odisha. My heartfelt prayers go out to all those affected and their families... The alleged failure in the signaling system that resulted in the collision of three trains is truly beyond belief and raises critical questions that demand answers."

Dipankar Bhattacharya, the general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) [CPI(ML)], echoed the concerns about the signaling and safety systems of Indian railways. Raising profound concerns, he inquired, "Have we regrettably reached a point where the Indian railways lack any functional signaling and safety system? Are we now to accept these appalling tragedies as a distressing norm for rail travel in India? It is our responsibility to provide answers to the victims and the grieving families who have suffered immeasurable loss in this unfortunate incident."

Binoy Viswam, a member of parliament from the Communist Party of India (CPI), demanded the resignation of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in response to the incident. Viswam criticized the government for neglecting trains and tracks used by the common people while focusing on luxury trains. He underscored, "The government's focus seems to be solely on luxury trains, while trains and tracks used by the common people are blatantly disregarded and neglected." Odisha deaths are the result of it. Rail minister should resign."

In the wake of the accident, JP Nadda, President of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced the postponement of all programs planned to commemorate the completion of nine years of the government at the Centre. The BJP expressed solidarity with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

Mallikarjun Kharge, President of the Congress party, and former party chief Rahul Gandhi expressed their sadness over the train tragedy in Odisha. They urged party workers and leaders to provide all necessary support for rescue efforts.

As the investigation into the train collision unfolds, the nation mourns the loss of lives and calls for a thorough review of the signaling and safety systems employed by the Indian railways to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
